If you’re ever stuck in snow and you aren’t lucky enough to have all-wheel drive, knowing how to get out of a snow drift is a vital. Follow these simple tips and you’ll be back on the road in no time.

Be prepared before it happens. Have tools with you that you can use to make the job easier. For instance, bringing a bag of salt or cat litter will give your wheels something to grab onto instead of spinning on wet snow. Bring a small shovel or hand trowel to dig the snow out from around your car, and if you live in a really bad area, get some snow chains to keep in the back as well.

Clear your tailpipe. Make sure there’s no snow blocking your tailpipe while your car is on. This can cause dangerous fumes to go right back into your car. Dig out the snow as much as possible, lay down your litter, and if you need more traction find some tree branches lying around that you can drive over. You can also use windshield wiper fluid to unfreeze your tires!

These helpful tips should help you get out of a snow drift. Give us at Gateway Buick GMC of St. Louis, MO a call or pay us a visit for more tips for winter driving.
